Greenhouse gas inventory

The Greenhouse Gas Inventory unit at Statistics Finland is responsible for the preparation and reporting of Finland's national greenhouse gas inventory under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Kyoto Protocol. These pages describe the national greenhouse gas inventory system in Finland, present the main related agreements and guidelines for reporting and the latest inventory estimates and reports. The Greenhouse Gas Inventory unit also produces performance indicators for the EU's climate policy. In addition, the Greenhouse Gas Inventory unit co-ordinates the preparation of the national communication under the UNFCCC.

News: Finland's greenhouse gas emissions 5per cent below the commitment level of the Kyoto Protocol in 2011

According to the greenhouse gas iventory submitted to the UNFCCC on 15 April 2012, greenhouse gas emissions in Finland amounted to 74.6 Mt of CO2 equivalent in 2010. According to the preliminary data of Statistics Finland in 2011 greenhouse gas emissions totalled 67,3 Mt of CO2 equivalent and were thus below the level to which Finland should limit its emissions during the Kyoto Protocol's first commitment period between 2008 and 2012.
