Retail trade flash estimate: turnover grew by 3.2 per cent year-on-year in February

According to Statistics Finlands retail trade flash estimate, the working day adjusted turnover of retail trade increased by 3.2 per cent in February from February 2021. The volume of retail trade sales, from which the impact of price changes has been eliminated, decreased by 2.0 per cent over the same period. In daily consumer goods trade, the working day adjusted turnover increased by 3.4 per cent in February. The sales volume, however, decreased by 1.4 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year.

Description: The index of turnover of trade describes development in the turnover of enterprises engaged in trade. Turnover for the largest enterprises in their respective industries is described with the data collected with the sales inquiry while the data on sales obtained from the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax are exploited to describe the turnover of other enterprises. Turnover is exclusive of value-added tax. In addition, the volume index of sales, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, is produced on trade.

Starting from statistical release published in February 2022 the latest industries defined by the Business Register have been taken into use in the turnover and wage and salary indices.
