Description

Quarterly local government finances describe development in the finances of Finnish municipalities and joint municipal boards in Mainland Finland by quarter according to the execution of budgets. The data from these statistics are used for quarterly monitoring of municipal finances, as source data for quarterly national accounts, for quarterly statistics of the EU on general government income and expenditure, for the EU’s quarterly financial accounts in the EU, and for General government deficit and debt (EDP) reporting.

Data content

Quarterly local government finances contains data describing municipalities’ and joint municipal boards’ profit and loss accounts and investments, as well as their liabilities and certain receivables by quarter. The data are public.

Classifications used

Transactions are classified in the statistics by the classification of income and expenditure items for municipal finances (classifications of the statistics on the finances and activities of municipalities and joint municipal boards, and the account classification model for municipalities and joint municipal boards, the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities).

Data collection methods and data sources

The statistics are based on a sample. The data are collected from the sampled municipalities and joint municipal boards with a web questionnaire. The methods are described in more detail in the quality description.

Quarterly.

Time of completion or release

The data are released approximately two months after the end of each quarter.

Time series

The data are available from the beginning of 2013.
