27 Jun 2017
According to Statistics Finlands retail trade flash estimate, retail trade sales increased by 1.4 per cent in May from May 2016. The volume of retail trade sales, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, went up by the same amount. In turn, sales and sales volume in daily consumer goods trade increased in May by 1.2 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year. Prices remained in May on level with the previous year both in retail trade and daily consumer goods trade, for which reason the development of turnover and sales volume did not differ in either industry.

Description: The index of turnover of trade describes development in the turnover of enterprises engaged in trade. Turnover for the largest enterprises in their respective industries is described with the data collected with the sales inquiry while the data on sales obtained from the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax are exploited to describe the turnover of other enterprises. Turnover is exclusive of value-added tax. In addition, the volume index of retail trade sales, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, is produced on trade.
