Change in the value of money

The calculator can be used to convert FIM or EUR of the starting year to FIM or EUR of the comparison year. The calculation is based on the Cost-of-living Index 1914:1-6=100 and it takes into account both the 1963 monetary reform and the 2002 introduction of the euro. The year 1914 has been removed from the calculator because its data are deficient.

The 1963 monetary reform adopted the so-called new Finnish markka, the value of which was 0.01 old markka; in other words, two zeros were cut in the reform. In connection with the 2002 transition, the Finnish markka was converted to euro with a standard coefficient of 5.94573.

Select the starting and ending year for the comparison in the drop-down menu and enter the amount of money in the currency unit of the starting year. When you make changes to your selections, the new comparison values are calculated automatically. The results are given in the currency unit of the ending year of the comparison rounded to two decimal places.
