Sales of retail trade grew by 3.1 per cent in June

According to Statistics Finland, retail trade sales were 3.1 per cent higher in June 2008 than one year earlier. Department store sales fell by 0.4 per cent, whereas daily consumer goods sales went up by 5.7 per cent. Wholesale trade sales went up by 10.7 per cent from the previous year. Motor vehicle sales also increased by 0.8 per cent. In total trade, sales grew by 7.9 per cent in June.

The cumulative annual change in retail trade sales over the January to June period was 7.8 per cent. In the same period the corresponding figure for motor vehicle sales stood at 5.4 per cent and for wholesale trade sales at 12.3 per cent. In total trade, sales grew by 10.1 per cent year-on-year in the January to June period.
