General government’s net financial assets decreased in the second quarter of 2022

According to Statistics Finland, general government's net financial assets, i.e. the difference between assets and liabilities, amounted to EUR 162.9 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2022. Net financial assets fell by EUR 7.7 billion from the previous quarter. The fall was especially due to holding losses of employment pension schemes.

The central government sector’s net financial assets increased by EUR 0.9 billion from the previous quarter and were EUR 70.9 billion negative at the end of the quarter.

The local government sector’s net financial assets grew by EUR 1.3 billion, being EUR 2.4 billion negative at the end of the quarter.

Employment pension schemes’ net financial assets were EUR 234.6 billion positive at the end of the quarter. Employment pension schemes’ net financial assets decreased by EUR 9.8 billion in total compared to the previous quarter.
