Both supply and demand grew in the field of culture measured in euros in 2022, but the shares of the whole economy did not change

According to Statistics Finland, in 2022, both the supply and consumption of culture increased, while their shares of the overall economy remained unchanged. The number of employed persons saw a slight growth.

The annual line chart shows the percentage share of value added and employment in culture and the percentage share of consumption expenditure used on culture in the whole economy starting from 2008. The trend has been falling in all these shares, except for in 2021 when the share of value added rose slightly and in 2022 when the share of employed persons went up slightly. The level for value added and consumption expenditure is the same as in 2021.

Key selections

The current priced value added of cultural industries grew slightly and its share of the value added of the whole economy remained on level with the previous year, at 3.1 per cent.
The share of culture among employed persons grew somewhat, being 2.8 per cent in 2022.
Consumption expenditure used on culture grew in relative terms by the same amount as total consumption expenditure in 2022, so the share of cultural consumption remained unchanged.

According to Statistics Finland's latest data, the supply of culture grew at current prices somewhat faster in 2022 than the supply of the whole economy.

The consumption of culture grew in euros but because total consumption grew by the same percentage, the share of culture in total consumption remained on level with the previous year. The number of employed persons grew somewhat.

The calculations of the culture satellite are compiled from the most detailed level data of the national accounts and are published in May. The calculations continue the earlier time series.
