European Community Household Panel, ECHP

The European Community Household Panel (ECHP) survey was conducted annually in the EU Member States in 1994 - 2001. Austria joined the survey in 1995 and Finland in 1996. The ECHP was an extensive, sample-based panel survey in which same households and persons were interviewed annually. Data from the surveys are available on the main aspects of welfare, including income and employment, housing, education, social relationships, health. In Finland, most of the data concerning income were gathered from administrative sources.

The produced data are cross-nationally comparable. Their contents are congruent, and their collection as well as the compilation of statistics followed common standards.

Some of the data from the Finnish Living Conditions Surveys of 1978, 1986 and 1994 are comparable with those of the Finnish ECHP.

Information about the ECHP survey is available on Eurostat's Internet pages
