New orders in manufacturing grew by 4.9 per cent year-on-year in February

According to Statistics Finland, new orders in manufacturing went up by 4.9 per cent in February 2007 from February 2006. In the January to February period, new orders in manufacturing increased by 7.8 per cent year-on-year.

In February 2007, new orders in manufacturing went up in all the examined main industries. New orders increased most in the chemical industry where their growth amounted to 18.0 per cent. In the manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products new orders increased by 7.1 per cent and in the manufacture of textiles and textile products by 3.7 per cent. Among the examined industries, the growth in new orders was most moderate in the metal industry where it amounted to 0.5 per cent. The weak growth in the metal industry is partly explained by the exceptionally strong phase of growth in new orders that coincided with the same time period of the comparison year.
