Next base year for the Building Cost Index will be 2021=100

The new base year will be taken into use on 15 February 2022.

The Building Cost Index is an index based on EU regulations, the base year of which is typically changed every five years, in years ending in five or zero. In 2021, new Regulation (EU) 2019/2152 on European business statistics entered into force, which obliges the next base year of the Building Cost Index to be exceptionally 2021=100. The base year following this will be 2025=100, which ends in five.

When the new base year is adopted, the weight structure of the index will be updated to correspond with the cost structures of newbuilding. Publishing of the index series of the previous key base years will be continued. The Building Cost Index will be published by cost item, type of building and input heading.
