Cubic volume of granted building permits decreased year-on-year

According to Statistics Finland, 14.9 per cent fewer building permits were granted in the November to January period than in the corresponding period of the year before. Permits for a total of 7.5 million cubic metres were granted. The cubic volumes of building permits decreased for all building types except public service buildings.

The cubic volume of permits for residential building construction decreased further

In November to January, cubic metres covered by building permits for residential buildings amounted to 2.6 million. Residential building construction decreased in the latest examination period by 15.0 per cent. Fewer building permits were granted for all types of buildings than one year earlier.

In November to January, building permits were granted for a total of 8,535 dwellings, in the year before the corresponding figure was 10,791.

Few permits for commercial and office building

In November to January, the cubic volume for commercial and office buildings declined by 59.4 per cent year-on-year. The cubic volume share of commercial and office building of total construction has decreased from 18 per cent to the current 8.6 per cent in one year.

Growth in the volume of building production continued to peter out

In November to January, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production increased by 2.5 per cent year-on-year. The volume of residential building construction remained almost on level with the previous year, growing by 0.2 per cent. The volume of other than residential building construction went up by 4.7 per cent. Measured by volume, 10.3 per cent fewer building projects than one year earlier were started in the same period.
