Finland’s greenhouse gas emissions 2019 to the EU and the UNFCCC

In 2019, Finland's greenhouse gas emissions without the LULUCF sector amounted to 53.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (mil. t CO2 eq.), being 18.2 million tonnes less than in the comparison year 1990. These total emissions remained more or less unchanged compared with the preliminary data published in December 2020. Emissions not included in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) exceeded the annual emission allocations set by the EU by 0.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. The net sink of the land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector, that is, the sum of removals and emissions, amounted to −14.7 million tonnes CO2 equivalent in 2019, but these data are not included in total emissions. The data published now are based on the reporting of emission data to the EU and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Finland's greenhouse gas emissions and removals by sector (emissions are positive and removals negative figures) and total emissions minus net sinks.

Finland's greenhouse gas emissions and removals by sector (emissions are positive and removals negative figures) and total emissions minus net sinks.
LULUCF refers to the land use, land use change and forestry sector. The estimates of the LULUCF sector for the latest years will be updated in future due to new input data (incl. tree biomass, surface areas)

Revised emission data can be found more specified in the database table .
