Inflation 1.8 per cent in October

The year-on-year change in consumer prices, i.e. inflation, calculated by Statistics Finland was 1.8 per cent in October. In September it stood at 1.5 per cent. The slight acceleration of inflation was mainly caused by increases in interest rates and risen prices of vegetables.

During the year, consumer prices were pushed up most by risen interest rates and higher prices of dwellings. Rises in the prices of vegetables and rent increases also had an impact on inflation. Inflation was curbed most by reductions in the prices of liquid fuels, entertainment electronics and home computers from the year before.

From September to October, consumer prices rose by 0.3 per cent.

Each mid-month, Statistics Finland interviewers collect around 55,000 prices on 497 commodities from approximately 3,500 outlets for the Consumer Price Index. In addition, some 1,000 items of price data are gathered by centralised collection.
