Number of passengers at Finnish airports decreased by 91 per cent in January 2021

In January 2021, altogether 179,304 passengers flew through Finnish airports, which was 91 per cent fewer than twelve months earlier. There were 132,253 passengers at Helsinki Airport and a total of 47,051 passengers at other domestic airports. Helsinki Airport accounted for 74 per cent of all passengers at domestic airports.

In January 2021, the number of passengers at Helsinki Airport decreased by 92 per cent and the combined number of passengers at other domestic airports went down by 88 per cent compared to January 2020.

One-half or 50 per cent of the passengers were from international flights and the other 50 per cent from domestic flights. The share of passengers on international flights was 67 per cent at Helsinki Airport and four per cent in total at other domestic airports.

In January 2021, air freight and mail transport totalled 10,587 tonnes, which was 38 per cent lower than one year earlier. In total, 99.7 per cent of the tonnes passed through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent were transported in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 5,526 tonnes of the transported volume of goods were outgoing and 5,061 tonnes were incoming.
