Industrial output fell by 0.3 per cent in April from March

According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was 0.3 per cent lower in April 2005 than in March.

Industrial output went up by 1.2 per cent in April from one year back

According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was 1.2 per cent higher in April 2005 than in April 2004. Over the January to April period, seasonally adjusted output grew by just short of one per cent from one year back.

Among the main industries, the biggest growth in output, 10.4 per cent, was recorded in April in the chemical industry. Manufacture of electronic and electrical products increased by 7.5 per cent. In the metal industry, output grew in April by 6.6 per cent from twelve months back. Output fell by most, 10.1 per cent, in energy supply. In the wood and paper industry, output declined in April by 7 per cent compared to twelve months ago.

Capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing was 82 per cent this April, which is 1.4 percentage points lower than in April 2004. In the pulp and paper industry, capacity utilisation rate was 80 per cent and in the metal industry 81 per cent. Capacity utilisation rate in the chemical industry was 85 per cent and in other manufacturing 82 per cent.

Revised data for April will be published at 9 am on 30 June 2005 in connection with the industrial output data for May. Because of the method used, seasonally adjusted figures for previous months may change even if the original figures do not become revised. The seasonally adjusted figures will also be adjusted for working days.
