Business subsidies paid to large enterprises clearly decreasing

Based on Statistics Finlands statistics on business subsidies, direct business subsidies declined by two per cent in 2018 compared to 2017. In total, business subsidies increased by 0.1 per cent from the year before. The growth was due to a 3.2 per cent increase in guarantees to enterprises. Loans granted to enterprises decreased by 3.3 per cent year-on-year. The number of enterprises that received subsidies was 28,147, which is one per cent fewer than in the previous year.

The statistics are based on data provided by certain state-owned institutions that have granted and paid subsidies. The data are classified according to the industry and size category of the enterprises that have received subsidies as well as by type of subsidy and payer.
