The productivity of central government agencies and institutions improved from the previous year in 2008. The productivity of labour increased by close on two per cent and total productivity by one per cent from 2007. The added up volume of output of central government agencies and institutions fell slightly, i.e. 0.1 per cent. Labour input diminished by 1.8 per cent and total input fell by 1.2 per cent. These data derive from the statistics on central government productivity compiled by Statistics Finland.
The most visible change in 2008 was that both labour input and total input diminished by more than one per cent. Labour productivity increased in 2008, as it has done in the past three years. The increase in labour productivity is explained by the fact that, labour input diminished by more than output . The increase in labour productivity was 1.7 per cent, the most rapid increase in ten years. Total productivity increased by 1.0 per cent. The last time total productivity improved by as much was in 2005 .
