Sea transport decreased in February

The goods volume of foreign sea transport was in total 7.1 million tonnes in February 2021. Sea transport decreased by 0,2 per cent from last year's February. Exports increased by five per cent and were 3.7 million tonnes. Import volume decreased by five per cent and amounted to 3.4 million tonnes.

General cargo was transported most, in total 1.4 million tonnes, which is 19 per cent of all transport. The second most transported was oil products, 0.8 million tonnes, and crude oil, 0.8 million tonnes.

Container transport

A total of 0.9 million tonnes of containers were transported through Finnish ports in February 2021, which is 14 per cent more than in February 2020. The number of containers transported was 66,746 (119,676 TEU containers) 1) . Exports of containers went up by 20 per cent measured in tonnes and imports went up by one per cent compared to February 2020.

Vehicle transport

A total of 129,898 transport equipment were transported in foreign sea traffic in February 2021. Most transports of transport equipment were trucks. In February, 53,586 trucks were transported. The second most transported were passenger cars belonging to passengers, 37,059 and truck trailers, 36,046.

Passenger traffic

A total of 172,952 persons were transported in passenger traffic in February 2021. In all, 100,274 persons travelled between Finland and Estonia and 69,038 persons between Finland and Sweden and 3,640 passengers between Finland and Germany. Passengers made up only 15 per cent of the number of passengers in February 2020. In February 2021, no passengers of foreign cruise ships arrived in Finland.

A total of 6,293 tons of transport were registered through the canal in foreign traffic.
