Road traffic accidents claimed 40 lives in July
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 746 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in July In them, 40 persons were killed and 918 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 15 higher and that of persons injured 18 higher than in July 2009.

Of the persons who were killed, 26 travelled by passenger car and 5 by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 3 and cyclists 4. In addition, 2 other road users were killed. Among those who died, 29 were men and 11 were women.
A total of 3,334 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to July period. In them, 159 persons were killed and 4,229 persons injured. The number of persons killed was the same as in the corresponding period of 2009 and that of persons injured 212 lower. Of the person who were killed, 95 travelled by passenger car, 3 by van, 3 by lorry, 12 by motorcycle and 5 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 19 and cyclists 14. In addition, 8 other road users were killed.
