Producer Price Indices in January 2008

Producer prices for manufactured products rose by 3.4 per cent, export prices by 2.9 per cent and import prices by 5.4 per cent from January 2007 to January 2008. The basic price index for domestic supply went up by 5.1 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index was 4.7 per cent.

The rise in the producer prices for manufactured products was particularly caused by increased prices of oil products from December 2007. The rising of the prices was held back by fallen prices of electric energy.

From December 2007 to January 2008, producer prices for manufactured products rose by 1.5 per cent. The increase in the prices was caused especially by risen prices of electricity, food and chemicals. The rise in the prices was held back by fallen prices of oil products, among other things.
