Students in upper secondary general school education numbered 114,240 in 2008

According to Statistics Finland, a total of 114,240 students attended upper secondary general school education leading to qualification in 2008. The number of students continued to decrease and was nearly one per cent lower than the year before.

Fifty-seven per cent of the students in upper secondary general school education leading to a qualification were women. Upper secondary education was offered at 406 upper secondary schools and 43 other educational institutions.

A total of 32,592 students passed the matriculation examination in 2008. Their number was over one per cent less than the year before. In addition, the International Baccalaureate examination was passed by 321 students in 15 upper secondary schools, the Reifeprüfung by 35 students in the Helsingin saksalainen koulu (the German School of Helsinki) and the gymnasieexamen by 15 students in the Ålands lyceum.
