Volume of goods transported by lorries increased in the second quarter of 2008

In the second quarter of 2008, the volume of goods transported by lorries in domestic road transport increased by 9 per cent from the corresponding quarter of 2007. Expressed in tonne-kilometres, the volume grew by 2 per cent from the year before. These data derive from the statistics on domestic goods transport by road compiled by Statistics Finland.

A total of 102 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorries during the April to June period of 2008. The volume of transported soil materials was 44 million tonnes while that of other goods totalled 58 million tonnes. The total transport volume of lorries was 6,937 million tonne-kilometres.
