Statistics Finland is the general authority within the National Statistical Service whose main tasks include the direction and development of the National Statistical Service. Statistics Finland and 17 other agencies and institutions are included in the producers of Official Statistics of Finland. Statistics Finland compiles approximately three-quarters of the official statistics.
The Statistics Act defines four statistical authorities (the Information Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Statistics Finland and the Finnish Customs) that have the right to collect data for statistical purposes by virtue of the data supply obligation prescribed in law.
