<title>One-half of advance voters pensioners</title>

<description>One-half of advance voters (49.8%) in the Municipal elections 2012 were pensioners. Of pensioners entitled to vote, 42.1 per cent voted in advance, while, on average, only one-quarter of all persons entitled to vote (24.7%) voted in advance. Advance voting was lower than this in the other groups. In all, 18.4 per cent of employed persons and 18.2 per cent of unemployed persons voted in advance. Students and those in the other inactive population voted the least often in advance. The data are based on Statistics Finland's statistics on the Municipal elections 2012.</description>

<title>Nomination of candidates: A total of 37,125 candidates in Municipal elections 2012</title>

<description>All of the 16 political parties registered in the register of political parties nominated candidates. The total number of candidates in the 304 municipalities in Mainland Finland is 37,125, of whom 787 were nominated by constituency associations. Of the candidates 22,703 are men and 14,422 are women. Of the candidates 7,292 are current councillors in municipal councils and 162 are Members of Parliament. The data are based on Statistics Finland's statistics on the nomination of candidates for the Municipal elections 2012.</description>

<description>These were the first Municipal elections in which the Coalition Party rose to the position of the largest party in Finland. In the four preceding Municipal elections the Coalition Party has been in third place. The Coalition Party took 23.4 per cent of the votes cast and increased its share of votes cast by 1.6 percentage points. The total number of votes for the Coalition Party was 597,727, which is good 76,300 votes more than in the preceding Municipal elections in 2004.</description>
