Inquiry on new orders in manufacturing

Description of the data collection

The inquiry on new orders in manufacturing collects the value of new orders received during the month for those commodities and services that are meant to be produced by establishments located in Finland.

Replies to the inquiry are submitted with a web form. The possibility for identification with the Tax Administration's Katso service has been taken into use in the statistics.

From whom are data collected?

The statistics on new orders in manufacturing are based on a judicious sample. The basic observation unit is an enterprise or a kind-of-activity unit operating in the manufacturing industry, for which the monthly sample is around 420. Measured by turnover, the coverage of the sample is around 80 per cent.

The sample is reviewed annually and the most significant new enterprises or kind-of-activity units are added to it. The aim of the formation of the sample is to attain a sufficient industrial coverage with respect to turnover with an optimally small sample size.

Enterprises' obligation to provide data is based on the Finnish Statistics Act (280/2004).
