Producer price indices measure the development of commodity prices from enterprises' viewpoint. The producer price indices comprise five separate indices, which differ from each other according to the used price concept, market coverage and/or industry coverage. The indices are the Producer Price Index for Manufactured Products, Export Price Index, Import Price Index, Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply and Wholesale Price Index.
Enterprises' obligation to provide data is based on the Statistics Act (280/2004), according to which Statistics Finland is entitled to obtain data necessary for the production of statistics on products and their prices. The price data for the producer price indices are collected monthly primarily from the sampled enterprises which had production, export or import during 2005.
The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential. Data on individual data suppliers are not released to other authorities or parties and in the published statistics the data are reported at a level from which the data on an individual enterprise cannot be identified.
