The inquiry on energy use in manufacturing collects volume data on the energy used, bought and/or generated by enterprises' establishments or on fuels of energy generation by energy source. The collection of data is based on the EU's Regulation on energy statistics No 1099/2008. Data from energy statistics in manufacturing are needed by enterprises and their organisations, researchers and public administration. In 2008 the revised data collection comprises some 3,000 manufacturing establishments. The obligation to provide data is based on the Statistics Act (280/2004). Statistics Finland is entitled to obtain the data free of charge (Section 21). The data from establishments are treated as confidential (Sections 12 to 13) and they are used only for statistical purposes. The data are collected once a year in February to March. The data can be delivered electronically with the Internet form.
Data are requested from enterprises in the industries mining and quarrying as well as manufacturing (industries B and C (Standard Industrial Classification TOL 2008); C and D (Standard Industrial Classification TOL 2002)).
As from 2008 the data are collected from a sample and by using other sources of data. In the same context the industry electricity, gas and water supply (industry D and E (Standard Industrial Classification TOL 2008); E (Standard Industrial Classification TOL 2002)) was removed from the inquiry and establishments of enterprises employing less than 10 personnel were added to it.The inquiry no longer requests value data on energy bought.
