Hard coal consumption and storage inquiry
Description of the data collection
Data on consumption and stocks of hard coal are collected quarterly by email with Excel forms. In addition, data are collected in July about consumption of hard coal in the first two statistical quarters.
The compilation of statistics is based on the EU Regulation on energy statistics (Regulation No 1099/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council on energy statistics).
From whom are data collected?
All significant users of hard coal are included in the inquiry.
The data supply obligation is based on the Finnish Statistics Act (280/2004, Section 14).
The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential and use them only for statistical purposes.
What are the data used for?
The data are used for compiling consumption statistics on hard coal. In addition, the data are utilised in the calculation of total energy consumption, consumption of hard coal and monitoring of markets, as well as in international reporting (EU, IEA).
The data on stocks of hard coal are also utilised for the needs of the National Emergency Supply Agency.
