Illustration of statistics competition
In honour of Finland's centenary, Statistics Finland will arrange a competition for students of universities and universities of applied sciences on the best electronic implementation to illustrate statistics. The competition will run between 6 December 2016 and 1 October 2017.
Participation in the competition
It is possible to take part in the Illustration of statistics competition with an electronic entry utilising statistics, such as data visualisation, video or animation. The same person can submit more than one entry to the competition. The entries can be in Finnish, Swedish or English. The entries can be individual or team work, course work can also be entered. The entry should be completed between 6 December 2016 and 1 October 2017.
Students can participate in the competition by sending to Statistics Finland a link to the entry by email to email@example.com or a record to the address Statistics Finland, Communication, PO Box 2C, FI-00222 STATISTICS FINLAND (mark the envelope with "Illustration of statistics competition”). Please report in which educational institution the producer/producers are studying. If there are technical conditions related to the entry, they should be mentioned when sending the entry.
Statistics Finland must have the right to publish the entry.
The entries should be at Statistics Finland by 2 October 2017 at 3 pm.
Data produced by Statistics Finland’s staff cannot enter the competition.
Selection of the winner
A panel named by Statistics Finland will select the winning entry and its producer/producers will be awarded.
The following evaluation criteria are used in the selection:
- Statistics have a major role in the entry
- Statistics are used in an interesting, innovative and clear manner
- Technical implementation and visuality
- The entry increases understanding of statistics and their uses
- The entry produces new insights about statistics.
The prize for the illustration of statistics competition is EUR 2,000 (liable to taxation). The winner/winners will be published towards the end of 2017.
